Wanted to share a cool trick I learned that will help you ward off the beating sun, without having to deal with a hat, shemagh, bandana, etc. Cut down on weight, clutter, and hassle. The hood gives you instant shade.. whenever you want it while always being right at hand when you need it. ..try that with a hat or Shemagh!
I know right away that there will be good reason to discount cotton, but I normally take along at least one long sleeved Henley style hooded t-shirt to protect myself from the desert sun while backpacking. (maybe order one size too big to ensure you get a loose fit for air flow and to allow covering of the hands) As long as you have a backup shirt for a turn in the weather you should be OK.. in my opinion.
This is my personal favorite brand... but there are a lot out there. l8r
